Your Opportunity

This opportunity will be responsible for promoting Mission Australia’s Child Safe Practices across Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland and as such, the state location of this position is flexible.

The National Child and Youth Safe Lead position is one of two equivalent roles reporting to the National Manager, Practice Quality, which sits within the broader MA Practice Evidence and Impact team. The other National Child and Youth Safe Lead is responsible for promoting child and youth safe practices across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Promote a child safe, child friendly organisation culture in accordance with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
  • Deliver the organisation-wide implementation of our child safe priorities in accordance with the National Child and Youth Safe Work Plan
  • Provide direct supervision of WA, QLD and NT Child and Youth Safe Advocates (working 1 day a week) to deliver strategies aligned with the National Work Plan
  • Maintain and develop the child and youth safe policy suite and supporting resources
  • Ensure that emerging risks and issues are identified and escalated as required
  • Deliver child and youth safe training in accordance with the Professional Development Strategy
  • Support operational staff and managers to manage allegations against workers regarding children and young people in accordance with MA policy and procedure, and state / territory legislation
  • Work to ensure compliance and continuous quality improvement in accordance with organisation and service level self-assessment gap analysis results
  • Work with key stakeholders, including senior management to achieve outcomes
  • Some interstate travel will be required


Position requirements

  • Relevant tertiary degree and/or extensive experience
  • Specialist knowledge gained through experience, education or training
  • Detailed knowledge of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or supporting staff to respond to allegations against workers, concerning children and young people
  • Clear understanding of state and territory child protection legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training programs
  • Strong conceptual, communication and analytical skills
  • Appreciation of the long-term goals of the organisation
  • Covid vaccination is mandatory
