Community Project Worker

  • Full Time, Fixed Term position for 12 months
  • Location: Yarrabah, with a requirement to travel and work within the community.

Your Opportunity

Mission Australia Communities for Children (CfC) and Circles of Care Program are early intervention and prevention programs aimed to improve the development, health and wellbeing of children aged 12 and under, aimed at providing them with the best possible start to life. This is done by addressing local needs and encouraging community participation.

The Project Worker opportunity will give you the chance to support the development and implementation of evidenced based early intervention prevention activity within the local Yarrabah Community.

Your key responsibilities will to:

  • Establish and nurture formal and informal partnerships with members within the community and local networks.
  • Support the coordination of events and community based meetings, including the preparation of promotional and service materials.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of Committee and team meeting minutes, reporting and other administration tasks.
  • Assisting with Emergency Relief applications whilst appropriately adhering to Emergency Relief reporting policies.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of programs for students and parents within the Yarrabah State School.
  • Linking families with services available within the Yarrabah Council area.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent level of experience and strong expertise across a range of project coordination and community based activities.
  • Local experience and knowledge working within the Cairns South and Yarrabah, ideally with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Family Support, Early Intervention and Prevention research, Program Evaluation, Community Development, Coordinated approaches, Community engagement frameworks and partnership development.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skill, including exceptional administrative skills.
  • Solid organisational skills with the ability to provide support management within a complex environment and client group.

As part of our Employment screening process you will be required to undertake a National Criminal History Check if you haven’t completed one in the last 12 months.

In addition, there is a requirement to possess a current Working with Children check or apply if you do not already hold one. It is unlawful for prohibited persons to apply for work with children, and, as such, prohibited persons cannot apply for this role.
