About Us

Mission Australia is a non-denominational Christian charity that has been helping vulnerable Australians move towards independence for more than 160 years.

Every day we support people nationwide by combatting homelessness, assisting disadvantaged families and children, addressing mental health issues, fighting substance dependencies and much more.

We're generously supported by our funders, partners and tens of thousands of everyday Australians, who make the work of our tireless volunteers and staff possible.

Your Opportunity

As the Child and Family Support Worker, you will identify risk factors or issues for vulnerable children at risk of or affected by mental illness. Through effective counselling and therapeutic strengths-based interventions, you will provide solution-based education to your clients and referrals to appropriate community services.

  • Conduct thorough inductions and assessments with young clients and families entering the program
  • Actively support clients to participate and engage in activities and appropriate referrals through the creation of professional and influential relationships.
  • Adhere to child safe practices and child protection concerns to uphold duty of care obligations.
  • Effectively engage and partner with community networks to support and advocate for clients and their access to required support services.
  • Completing all administrative, reporting and compliance duties accurately and in a timely manner to adhere to KPI requirements and Mission Australia policies.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or significant equivalent experience working therapeutically with children and their careers and families.
  • Proven experience working within child safe frameworks and a strong understanding of mental health needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to network effective relationships across the community (including vulnerable, disadvantaged and multicultural families).
  • High level of written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work both autonomously and co-operatively within small team environments.
  • Current valid Driver’s Licence

As part of our Employment screening process you will be required to undertake a National Criminal History Check if you haven’t completed one in the last 12 months.

In addition, there is a requirement to possess a current Working with Children check or apply if you do not already hold one. It is unlawful for prohibited persons to apply for work with children, and, as such, prohibited persons cannot apply for this role.
