Your Opportunity

The Financial Mentor is responsible for all money related issues such as budgeting, debts and payments of case managed clients within homelessness programs in the Cairns region. This position reports to Woree Supported Accommodation. The Financial Mentor develops and maintains culturally effective working relationships with key stakeholders in the local community where the outreach service occurs.

Your key responsibilities are to:

  • Engage and build rapport with clients to assist with the development of financial support plans addressing their individual issues and achievement of goals.
  • Educate and link clients to appropriate support services such as NILS loans, ICAN, ACCC  and other financial/homelessness services in the Cairns sector.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and creative engagement strategies with other agencies and services to better facilitate linkages with clients and the community.
  • Maintain case management files accurately and in a timely manner and in accordance with Mission Australia Policy and Procedures.

Requirements for Success

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Services, Social Work; Psychology or Behavioural Sciences.
  • Relevant experience providing financial/budgeting advice or support.
  • Significant knowledge and experience working with a specific target group within a case management setting.
  • Demonstrated exposer and adherence to working within the Aboriginal Framework.
  • Experience in a similar financial support program within the homelessness sector will be highly regarded.
  • Strong communication skills, including oral and written skills, writing reports and case files, and the ability to advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Ability to respond quickly in a crisis situation, and make appropriate decision to ensure the safety of young people, yourself and/or other staff.
  • A valid Queensland Driver’s Licence.
  • Current Suitability Notice from the Commission for Children and Young People – Working with Children Blue Card.

As part of our Employment screening process you will be required to undertake a National Criminal History Check if you haven’t completed one in the last 12 months.
